Split pea soup recipe


Split pea soup is not something most of us would consider fall food fare, but the heartiness of this recipe certainly fits the bill!

SPLIT PEA SOUP 
Ingredients
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked crisp, drained and crumbled, save grease 
  • 1 small white or yellow onion, chopped 
  • 1 large carrot, chopped 
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 4 cans vegetable or chicken broth 
  • 1 1/2 cups green split peas 
  • 2 bay leaves 
  • 1-2 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary, depending on your taste
  • salt and pepper to taste 
Directions 
Add all of the ingredients except the salt and pepper, including the reserved bacon grease, to your crock pot and cook on low 6-8 hours. When ready to serve, remove bay leaves and puree the soup, if desired, before serving.
