PEPPERMINT MERINGUESIngredients
- 2 egg whites
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 crushed candy canes
Preheat oven to 225 degrees F and line 2 cookie sheets with foil. Set aside. In a large glass or metal mixing bowl, beat egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. Drop by spoonfuls 1 inch apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Sprinkle with crushed candy canes. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, until completely dry on the inside. When done, turn off oven, keeping door ajar, and let meringues cool before storing.
