Easter eggs are one of the oldest-and most popular-symbols of Easter. Decorated eggs were originally used as a symbol for fertility and rebirth by the Pagans during their Spring rituals. The Christians later adopted it to symbolize the resurrection of Christ. The tradition of sharing painted eggs dates back approximately 2500 years, when the Zoroastrians painted eggs for their New Year celebration, which took place on the Vernal Equinox. In honor of the Easter season, I will be providing my readers with guides and directions for making their own unique Easter eggs.
HOW TO MAKE CONFETTI EGGS
Supplies
Gently break and remove the pointed end from each egg and pour out the contents. Wash and rinse each egg and allow to dry completely. Once dry, begin gluing tissue paper squares to the bottom of each egg shell by applying a thin layer of glue wash to the egg with paint brush and applying a paper square to the wet area. Set hole side down in carton to allow the bottom to dry. Flip over and fill each egg 1/3-1/2 full with confetti and glue tissue paper to the top half of the egg, making sure to cover the hole. Allow to dry and decorate with additional confetti, stickers, Sharpies, etc as desired. Place Easter grass in basket and arrange confetti eggs on top of the grass. When you are ready to celebrate, crush the eggs to release the confetti and create a festive atmosphere. Crafty Tips- If you are short on time, skip gluing tissue paper on the eggs and use regular Easter egg dye on them once the eggs have been emptied, washed and dried. You will still need to glue paper to the end to cover the hole or leave them uncovered and store them open end up in an egg carton lined with Easter grass. If you choose to leave the eggs open, you can place small treats inside, like foil wrapped chocolate eggs. These eggs can be personalized with each child's name and presented to an entire class during an Easter or Spring celebration.
